Tour Description
Discover hidden gems and Nuart’s sensational street art as we explore some of Aberdeen’s forgotten places. We retrace the old road into Aberdeen, starting from the historic Green, and step back in time with tales of battles, kidnappings and a martyred monk.
Along the way, you’ll see street art from seven years of Aberdeen’s Nuart festival, from Ernest Zacharevic’s five storey tall mural of a child to blink-and-you’ll miss it lego walls by Jan Vormann.
This is Old and Nu Aberdeen like you’ve never seen it before!
Itinerary
The Green
The oldest part of Aberdeen, with evidence of humans dating back 8,000 years. Nowadays a great place for a bite before the tour with some fantastic local eateries.
Correction Wynd
So named for Aberdeen’s notorious “House of Correction” and overlooked by St Nicholas’s atmospheric churchyard.
Windmill Brae
Part of the old road into Aberdeen - the 17th century windmill it is named for can no longer be seen, but it compensates with lots of street art!
The Grill
A former World Whisky Bar of the Year, this Aberdonian institution is home to literally hundreds of whiskies - and is in an easy walking distance for a post-tour dram.
Union Row
Walk the wrong way down this unassuming street and you might well miss some of Aberdeen’s most iconic pieces of street art. A fitting end to the tour!
You’ll see works by artists including:
Bordalo II
Milu Correch
Ernest Zacharevic
Nimi & RH74

“Rick was a great storyteller and even provided us with a scotch tasting lesson! Good mix of old and new. Thanks for a fun afternoon!”
“Old and Nu street art: Great tour with Rick who was very knowledgeable and made the tour enjoyable.”
“Excellent walking tour with the very entertaining and knowledgeable guide Rick. We walked to see lots of old and new art around the city centre, we also heard tales of the history and the people of Aberdeen. The tour lasted for just over 2 hours and while we didn’t walk for all of that time we did stand for the 2 hours so be prepared. I would highly recommend the tour and the company, we were very impressed with the professionalism and stories we heard.”
