No, you do not have to pay. However the guide will invite voluntary donations at the end of the tour. We leave it up to you to decide what the tour was worth.
Please check the tour pages for directions:
In most situations, the tour will go on. Make sure to dress in the right clothing. During chilly weather, layers are best with a good wind and rain-proof outer layer.
If there is a weather warning, we may cancel the tour - if we do cancel the tour, we will try to do so with as much notice as possible. We will email everyone who has booked on the tour and put a notification on the website.
No. Most of our tours are between 1-1.5km (2500 steps) and are mainly on the flat. There are lots of stops and the guide will always go at the pace of the group and adapt to your ability. Please let the guide know if you have difficulty with walking or need a place to sit.
Yes, we can always modify our route to include all.
There is nothing unsuitable for children on our tours and children will always be welcome - including those in prams and buggies.
However you know your child best and will know whether they are likely to be interested in a two hour history tour!
Yes, all well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome. We go into St Machar Cathedral and Kings College Chapel during the Old Aberdeen tour, and it may not always be possible to take a dog into these areas, but we usually can.
Yes, you will be able to cancel or reschedule your booking by following the link from your confirmation email.
We are happy to arrange private tours and can adapt our regular tours to suit your needs and interests. Just fill out our enquiry form or drop us an email on scotfreetoursaberdeen@gmail.com to find out how we can make your 'Outlander'-themed, hen party, horror extravaganza tour happen.
All of our tours are in English but we are happy to work alongside interpreters for private tours.
Unfortunately we no longer do free tours of Dundee, Inverness, St Andrews or Stonehaven. For these locations you can download our audio guides on VoiceMap, which uses GPS to trigger audio at the right time.
Don't worry - our audio tour has everything you have come to expect from us: compelling storytelling, quirky details and a point of view that goes beyond the normal tourism narrative. It just gives you the freedom to explore in your own time and focus on what you want.
For more information on our audio tours, click on ‘other locations’ in the main menu.
Scot Free Tours was set up in 2016 to share the unknown and unusual stories of Aberdeen. Since then we have become the top-ranked tour provider in Aberdeen, collecting TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence in 2018 and 2019 and Travellers’ Choice Awards in 2020, 2021 and 2022, with more than 400 five-star reviews. As well as running four different free tours, we also offer private tours.
In 2017 we expanded to cover more of the North East and have since created audio guides of Dundee, Inverness, St Andrews, Stonehaven and Aberdeen to allow you to enjoy the Scot Free Tours experience at your own pace.
We are enthusiastic about telling stories from Aberdeen’s history and have conducted tailor-made private tours for many different occasions, from family reunions and hen parties to leaving-dos and conferences.
